Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Because you matter…..
Suicide Prevention & Awareness
Every year, millions of Americans suffer from depression and anxiety. For some, these mental health conditions can be so debilitating that they impede daily functioning. And, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NAMI), suicide is now the 12th leading cause of death in the US. So what does this have to do with pet ownership? Well, a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that having a pet can improve mental health and well-being.
The Power of the Human-Animal Bond
There’s something special about the relationship between humans and animals. When we interact with our pets, we experience what’s known as the “human-animal bond.” This relationship has been found to have a number of health advantages, including lowering stress levels, enhancing moods, and increasing social interaction.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to remind pet owners of the importance of taking care of their mental health—for their sake and their pet’s sake.
